A book about gender equality, liberalism and dictatorship in the Arab world. What could go wrong? Feast for the Seaweeds was banned in Egypt at the time of its publication in 1983. When university clerics reprinted the book in 2000, the backlash was so intense that the newly printed copies were all confiscated as a result.


رواية للأديب السوري حيدر حيدر صدرت عام 1983 في سوريا تدور أحداثها حول مناضل شيوعي عراقي هرب إلى الجزائر، غير أنه يلتقي بمناضلة قديمة تعيش عصر انهيار الثورة، والخراب الذي لحق بالمناضلين هناك. بعد سبعة عشر عامآ وإثر اعادة طبعها في مصر عام 2000م أحدثت جدلاً ومنعها الأزهر.

رواية أثارت جدلاً في الأوساط الثقافية بعد اتهام مؤلفها حيدر حيدر بتطاوله من خلال عبارات وردت على لسان الأبطال خلال مسيرة الأحداث.
فالرواية على صعيد الحدث تدور في آفاق معاناة مسرحها العراق والجزائر…. الثورة العنصر هي المشترك بينهما، والإخفاقات عالم من الضياع والدم والفناء غرق في لججه الإنسان… المواطن… وأوجاع مشتركة تجمع بين مهدي جواد الهارب من مدائن العراق إلى بونة، وفلّة التي خطت على الورق-الجزائر-خطوطاً وإشارات كانت تشبه زورقاً أو سمكة لتطوقها بدوائر لولبية.
فهما الناجيان أو الهاربان على ما تقول اللوائح الشخصية والمسافة النائية من البلد الذي وقع تحت وطأة الحكم العسكري و”الموت يأتيك على شكل موجات وأطياف زرقاء وصفراء… تصرخ… أهلي أحبابي لا أحد… عراءات بيضاء”… النفس طائرة ونائية تريد أن تعود إلى جسدها ولا تستطيع. هل يعالج حيدر حيدر غربة الإنسان في عالم إنسانيته… ضل عنها أم ضلت عنه… أم أنه أضاعها إلى الأبد في عالم الإنسان المقهور المتلجلج بالثورات والشعارات… وفي حمأة هذه المعاناة هل يمكن للإنسان أن يضيع إيمانه؟!!
مواضيع ذات أبعاد فلسفية تحمل حيدر حيدر لامتطاء قلمه مشرعاً لخياله العنان ولعباراته المدى لتأتي خارجة عن حدود الدين الإسلامي… ومتخطية في أحيان أخرى حدود لياقة اللفظ والعبارة… ولكن هل يمكن أن يشفع له أن المتحدث هو ذاك الإنسان الذي تخطت نفسه زمنها… فمكث حزيناً على شاطئ بارد… وأضحى طائراً يغني في وحشة…
