Eu diria que muitos homens a quem Deus usou neste mundo vieram de grandes pais. Começando com Timóteo, encontramos inúmeros homens usados por Deus que vieram de grandes pais. John Wesley era um deles. Uma outra pessoa foi John Newton. Há muitos hinos em nosso hinário escrito por Newton. John G. Paton foi outro. Ele era um dos missionários mais famosos no mundo moderno. Não posso pensar em nenhum outro pai como o pai dele. Em sua velhice Paton ainda se lembrava, “Toda vez que queria pecar, eu me lembrava de meu pai que sempre estava orando por mim.” A sua família era muito pobre.

Havia apenas um quarto, uma cozinha, e outro pequeno quarto. Ele dizia, “Eu tremia toda vez que meu pai orava no pequeno quarto. Ele estava fazendo petições pelas nossas almas.
