About this app

This app is based on calculating the AS index named after the names of inventors (Atif & Saif). This index explains the difference and screening for genocide, android and barrel shaped obesity.

The body mass index (BMI) is the most commonly used parameter in all age groups to determine overweight and obesity. However, it does not provide accurate information on body fat distribution. Till date, to the best of our knowledge the genocide, android and barrel shaped obesity are characterized by the pear shaped, apple shaped and barrel shape body appearance respectively. Here we explain a screening method for this purpose by using the novel three indices, namely ASindex [Hip circumference (Hc) minus Waist circumference Wc)].
Many anthropometric indicators have been proposed to diagnose the health risks taking into account the increased body fat. The most widely used is still the body mass index (BMI), but it has some limitations. However, other indicators have been recommended. Waist circumference (WC) is one of the measures proposed to achieve results closer to reality, since abdominal fat deposits also cause, alone, various health problems. WC and WHR have been used as measures of central adiposity and evidences suggest a greater association of these anthropometric variables for further obesity anthropometry investigation compare BMI. Yet these indicators are unable to explain that either a person have genocide, android obesity or barrel shaped obesity. There was a need to develop a screening strategy based on the anthropometric measurements and the available/ reported anthropometric indices are unable to define these different types of obesity.
