Kavemo Kartli region is a historic province and current administrative region in southeastern Georgia (country).

Kvemo Kartli CleaningUp APP is the outcome of Capacity Building Project "Growing Leader, Growing Change - Green City Youth" implemented by Association "Georgian Youth for Europe" (www.gye.ge) and supported by EACEA and Erasmus Plus programm.

The town of Rustavi is the administrative center of the Kvemo Kartli region - concrete jungles dominated by a multitude of Soviet-era block apartments with very high unemployment rate. Typical urban character of Rustavi city and all six region municipalities as Bolnisi, Gardabani, Dmanisi, Marneuli, Tetritsqaro and Tsalka determines the high rate of energy consumption for continuous operation of lighting, heating, transport, industrial and non-industrial institutions. Visitors to this region are depressed rather than impressed. School yards and other public spaces are magnets for trash and a plume of smoke hangs over the city dump like a white flag of surrender. It’s wasteful, environmentally-destructive and ugly.

Four inter-related factors have caused this waste: ignorance; civic docility; retrograde technology; and poverty. Put otherwise, many residents don’t know the harm they do to the Environment and themselves; others do, but feel powerless to reverse it; still others lack the technological means to do so; and some simply don’t care.

The fight against climate change is one of the main objectives of the EU and holds Sustainable Growth as one of its priorities. Learning to act on the European level, Environmental NGOs can play a crucial role in helping to plug gaps in policy development, building institutional capacity, and facilitating independent dialogue with civil society to help people live more sustainable lifestyles.


We believe that young people are the 5th element, the one that makes the difference in balancing human relationship with nature and that has the power to change things! We, young people, are the ambassadors of the future.

By this APP we want to engage Georgian people with discussion about waste and nature, formulate their own opinion and ideas for environment activism and organise clean up actions around Kvemo Kartli region.
