About this app

Explore and learn about the tropics of Kauai through the National Tropical Botanical Gardens of Kauai as you virtually tour three of our five gardens. Famous from movies, like Jurassic Park, and home to endangered plants and animals; come explore with us and learn how you can help us save biodiversity. From cascading waterfalls to buzzy bees to plants brought by voyagers on their canoes enjoy interactive videos and 3D images as a naturalist interprets the wonders found in each area.

Allerton Garden: Paradise transformed through time by the hands of a Hawaiian queen, a sugar plantation magnate, and most significantly by an artist and an architect. Tour the garden to see towering rainforest trees with tall curving roots that grow near bronze mermaids or a grove of swaying golden bamboo.

McBryde Garden: Journey through a food forest or explore the jungle - McBryde is the flagship garden of NTBG and home to amazing plants and animals. Have a guided experience through a beautiful botanical ark of tropical flora that is home to the largest collection of native Hawaiian flora in existence.

Limahuli Garden and Preserve: Built on the footprint of our Hawaiian ancestors, Limahuli Garden and Preserve is located on the scenic north shore of the island of Kaua’i in one of the most biodiverse valleys in the Hawaiian Islands. Walk in a traditional kalo lo‘ (Hawaiian taro field) or learn about how we use drones to save plants. Limahuli is a place you will never forget.

Our network of five botanical gardens, preserves and research facilities encompasses nearly 2,000 acres with locations in Hawaii and Florida. Thousands of species from throughout the tropical world have been gathered, through field expeditions, collaborations with other institutions and researchers, to form a living collection that is unparalleled anywhere. We are a not-for-profit institution, dedicated to discovering, saving, and studying the world’s tropical plants and sharing what is learned.

Educational uses: The app is designed for people of all ages to explore the National Tropical Botanical Garden in a virtual way. Each garden tour contains multiple interactive points that can be viewed independently or as part of a larger digital learning experience. From science to historical and cultural lessons, this is an introduction to NTBG and the science at work to preserve our planet.
