في مكة أطهر بقاع الأرض أضاء الكون لـميلاد النبي خاتم النبيين، حيث وُلد يتيمًا في عام الفيل، وماتت أمه في سنٍّ مبكرة؛ فربَّاه جدُّه عبد المطلب ثم عمُّه أبو طالب، وكان يرعى الغنم ويعمل في التجارة خلال سنوات شبابه، حتى تزوج من خديجة بنت خويلد في سن الخامس والعشرين، وأنجب منها كلَّ أولاده باستثناء إبراهيم.
وفي سنِّ الأربعين نزل عليه الوحي بالرسالة، فدعا إلى عبادة الله وحده ونبذ الشرك، وكانت دعوته سرِّيَّة لثلاث سنوات، تبعهنَّ عشرٌ أُخَر يُجاهر بها في كل مكان، ثم كانت الهجرة إلى المدينة المنوَّرة بعد شدة بأسٍ من رجال قريش وتعذيبٍ للمسلمين، فأسَّس بها دولة الإسلام، وعاش بها عشر سنوات، تخلَّلها كثيرٌ من مواجهات الكفار والمسلمين التي عُرِفَت بـالغزوات، وكانت حياته نواة الحضارة الإسلامية، التي توسعت في بقعةٍ جغرافيَّةٍ كبيرة على يد الخلفاء الراشدين من بعده.
