As a Cantonese speaker who was born and grew up in America, I feel that most of the vocabulary could be more useful if you were trying to learn more standard formal written Chinese, like the vocabulary you might see in a Chinese newspaper. However, if you are trying to learn colloquial Cantonese, you might want to start somewhere else. I'm not sure if what I just said is entirely true though, because I just didn't recognize most of the words from my spoken vocabulary. Although this is only a vocabulary aide, it could also be improved by introducing pronouns first, which are very different from mandarin and other words that are fundamental to actually piecing together sentences, like equivalents to and, but, classifiers, how to indicate a specific number of things, how to indicate possession, among other words.
