Rivoyat qilinishicha, Muhammad (as) Quraysh zodagonlaridan bir guruhini islomga da’vat qilib turganida Abdulloh ibn Ummi Maktum ismli ikki ko‘zi ko‘r bir sahoba kelib: "Yo rasululloh, menga Alloh sizga bildirgan narsalardan ta’lim bering", deb so‘raydi. Payg‘ambarning boshqalar bilan band ekanligini sezmagan sahoba yuqoridagi gapini baland ovoz bilan bir necha bor takrorlaydi. Shunda payg‘ambar achchig‘lanib, qovoq soldi va u kishidan yuz o‘girib Quraysh kattalari bilan so‘zlashda davom etdi. Abasa surasi ko‘zi ojiz bir kishiga ro‘yxush bermagan payg‘ambarga tanbeh berish bilan boshlanadi (shuning uchun ham bu sura "Abasa" deb nomlangan) va u zotga zimmalaridagi vazifalari yana bir bor uqtirilib, Qur’on oyatlari Alloh tomonidan pand-nasihat oladigan bandalar uchun yuborilgan bir eslatma ekanligi ta’kidlanadi. Bu surada Alloh o‘z habibi va so‘nggi payg‘ambariga bergan tanbehi do‘stning do‘stga qiladigan beg‘araz muomalasi sifatida talqin etilgan.
