I have a tablet which does not have data capability, just wi-fi which I usually keep off. I noticed in the last few days that my wi-fi was turning on by itself. I kept turning it off and then it would turn itself on again. Then today I noticed an ad popping up on top of a video app which never has ads. At first I thought the tablet had gotten a virus but it was clean. Then I remember I had downloaded the UPR app a few days ago. I hadn’t run it after the first day but it had a process running in the background. It was the only thing I had downloaded recently. I deleted the app and after that the wi-fi stopped turning itself on. The only thing then I can think of is that this app is turning on the wi-fi in order to show ads or something and that is really wrong and inappropriate for apps. This is pretty bad for a “Public Radio” app. Also the app requests a lot more permissions than it really needs so that is also suspect. UPR you need to clean this thing up.

I enjoy listening to UPR/NPR a lot. That being said, I can count on the app to crash or skip over several seconds of content, often at times that test my patience as I wouldn't be listening if I didn't want to hear it. Fix your app please (and yes, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted the app, etc.).
