The new app layout is garbage, before this it was so much more intuitive and detailed. Now features I used to use are buried beneath multiple menus and are a hassle to make work. Really a masterclass in what not do for UI design. Before, you could have many different rooms and scenes show up on the first screen you see. Now you have to scroll. Before you could go to an individual light and dim it or turn it off in a few taps. Now you have to create or edit a scene or zone. This needs a rollback.

Barely been able to use the app for what feels like months. The words "home" and "rooms" load but the rooms and lights never load in the app. If I ask Google Home to turn lights on and off, no problem. So the system works, the app doesn't. The question is: what are your teams' definitions of "quality" and "done"? You must use customers' definitions, and transition "Agile" towards customer-centricity.

The widgets used to be really great, especially the one where you could have 5 or 6 buttons in a single widget and a double tap would turn the lights off again. Now you need a separate one-button widget for each scene and another button to turn the lights off again (why can't that be the same button like it used to be?). The widgets are also incredibly slow to respond. The sunset routine would be a lot more useful if it could be linked to your location (only turning lights on when at home).

After the update my lights don't work properly, the bridge keeps disconnecting from my app. I'm working with support, but we haven't had any luck. My lights randomly turn on, when the schedule turns the lights on they aren't at full brightness and I have to ask alexa to set it to 100% The old version worked like a charm. There were a bug here and there, but not like this.

The latest redesign has made most standard functionality more complicated, with more taps or clicks, than before. I cannot help but think that it was designed by someone who is not an end user or did not have the end user's experience in mind. As an example, to dim or brighten one light, it now takes at least three taps and finding the light within a horizontal scrolling menu, which is a horrible user experience. I expect more from a company I have invested thousands of dollars in.

Just not a fan of the new layout. Instead of on/off and brightness controls for individual lights in the same place, I need to make an additional tap. Then the brightness slider needs to be expanded to use. Dimming a light from 100% feels unintuitive. Also, the app lost its out of home control setting; when I tried to log in with my Google account, I got a 503 error.

About this app

The official Philips Hue app is the most comprehensive way to organize, control, and customize your Philips Hue smart lights and accessories.

Organize your smart lights
Group your lights into Rooms or Zones — your entire downstairs floor or all the lights in the living room, for example — that mirror the physical rooms in your home.

Easily control your lights — from anywhere
Use the app to control your lights anywhere you have an internet connection.

Explore the Hue scene gallery
Created by professional lighting designers, the scenes in the scene gallery can help you set the mood for any occasion. You can even create your own scenes based on a photo or your favorite colors.

Set up bright home security
Make your home feel safer, no matter where you are. The Security Center lets you program your Secure cameras, Secure contact sensors, and indoor motion sensors to send you alerts when they detect activity. Trigger light and sound alarms, call the authorities or a trusted contact, and monitor your home in real-time.

Get the best light for any moment of the day
Let your lights change automatically throughout the day with the Natural light scene — so you feel more energized, focused, relaxed, or rested at the right times. Just set the scene to watch your lights change with the sun’s movement, transitioning from cool blue tones in the morning to warmer, relaxing hues for sunset.

Automate your lights
Make your smart lights work around your daily routine. Whether you want your lights to gently wake you up in the morning or greet you when you get home, setting up customizable automations in the Philips Hue app is effortless.

Sync your lights to TV, music, and games
Make your lights flash, dance, dim, brighten, and change color in sync with your screen or sound! With the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box, the Philips Hue Sync for TV or desktop apps, or Spotify, you can create totally immersive experiences.

Set up voice control
Use Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant to control your smart lights with voice commands. Turn lights on and off, dim and brighten, or even change colors — completely hands-free.

Create widgets for quick control
Control your smart lights even faster by creating widgets on your home screen. Turn lights on or off, adjust brightness and temperature, or set scenes – all without even opening the app.

New features

- Friends of Hue switches got smarter: You can now use Time-based light, Scene cycle mode, the Natural light scene, and more.
- Save scene changes with a tap. Instead of tapping the pencil icon to edit, you can now simply adjust any light from the Room or Zone — and then edit the entire scene in which it's active. Tap Save in the top left to save as a new scene or save the changes to your original scene.
