About this app

The NY Herp Atlas is a real-time, online mapping program to transform the way we report and access information about the amphibians and reptiles of New York State.

With the NY Herp Atlas, you can:

• Maintain a list and keep track of the herps you see
• Find out what other herpers are reporting anywhere in New York
• Select maps, graphs, and charts for a species, time period, environment or location
• Learn more about amphibians and reptiles

Using the NY Herp Atlas, you become a citizen scientist who makes important contributions to our understanding of how amphibians and reptiles are responding to habitat loss and climate change in New York State.

Download the NY Herp Atlas app and create your account before you go outside. Report any species you encounter, no matter how common or rare. The NY Herp Atlas app captures your GPS location when you make an observation, and your observations can be submitted even without an internet connection. Data are automatically uploaded once you next connect to the internet.

All records are shared with the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation to aid in protecting these remarkable creatures. Thus your observations let you play an active role in conservation efforts throughout the rich and diverse state of New York, including Long Island and New York City to the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes, the Alleghenies and all habitats in between.
