Apakah maksud perkataan Ramadhan?

Kata akar bagi Ramadhan adalah ro-mi-dho yang membawa maksud panas terik.

رَمِضَ - رَمَضَان

Di sini saya nak kongsikan dengan anda, dua sebab kenapa bulan puasa dinamakan Ramadhan.

Pertama:
Kebiasaannya apabila datang bulan puasa cuaca akan menjadi panas (zaman dulu-dulu).

Sekarang ni dah akhir zaman, hujan pun selalu turun dalam bulan puasa.

Kedua:
Panas terik dalam bulan puasa tu akan membakar segala dosa-dosa kita. Sekiranya kita berpuasa dengan penuh keimanan, seluruh dosa kita akan diampunkan Allah.

Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda:
“Barangsiapa puasa pada bulan Ramadhan atas dasar iman dan mengharap pahala Allah s.w.t, niscaya diampuni dosanya yang telah lalu.” (Hadith Riwayat Bukhari, no 1901)

Dari Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu’anhu, sesungguhnya Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda: "Solat lima waktu, dari Jum’at ke jum’at dan dari Ramadhan ke Ramadhan ialah menghapuskan dosa diantara masing-masing apabila dijauhinya dosa-dosa besar." (Hadith Riwayat Muslim)
