রাসূলের (সা.) ‘জ্ঞান নগরীর দ্বার’আমিরুল মোমেনিন আলী ইবনে আবি তালিব ছিলেন তত্ত্বজ্ঞানী, দার্শনিক, সুলেখক ও বাগ্মী। আলঙ্কারিক শাস্ত্রে তার পান্ডিত্য ও নৈপুন্য অসাধারণ। তিনি নবুওয়াতী জ্ঞান ভান্ডার হতে সরাসরি জ্ঞান আহরণ করেন এবং সাহাবাদের মধ্যে তিনি শ্রেষ্ঠ জ্ঞানী পন্ডিত ছিলেন। এতে কারো দ্বিমত নেই। আরবী কাব্যে ও সাহিত্যে তার অনন্যসাধারণ অবদান ছিল। খেলাফত পরিচালনা কালে তিনি বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে ভাষণ (খোৎবা) দিয়েছিলেন এবং বিভিন্ন এলাকার প্রশাসকগণকে প্রশাসনিক বিষয়ে উপদেশ ও নির্দেশ দিয়ে পত্র লিখেছিলেন। এমনকি বিভিন্ন সময়ে মানুষের অনেক প্রশ্নের সংক্ষিপ্ত জবাব দিয়েছিলেন। তার এসব বাণী কেউকেউ লিখে রেখেছিল, কেউ কেউ মনে রেখেছিল, আবার কেউ কেউ তাদের লিখিত পুস্তকে উদ্ধৃত করেছিল। মোটকথা তার অমূল্য বাণীসমূহ মানুষের কাছে ছড়ানো ছিটানো অবস্থায় ছিল।আশ-শরীফ আর-রাজী আমিরুল মোমেনিন আলী ইবনে আবি তালিবের ভাষণসমূহ (খোৎবা), পত্রাবলী, নির্দেশাবলী ও উক্তিসমূহ সংগ্রহ করে “নাহজ আল-বালঘা” নামক গ্রন্থটি সঙ্কলন করেন।
