About this app

A dupla “Milionário e José Rico” era formada por Romeu Januário de Matos (1940), natural de Minas Gerais, o “Milionário”, e por José do Belmonte (1946-2015), o "José Rico", natural de Pernambuco. Os dois se conheceram em São Paulo, no ano de 1970, no hotel em que estavam hospedados.

Romeu cantava em dupla desde pequeno e José Rico atuava em um trio com dois violões e um acordeon. Ao conhecer Romeu, José Rico deixou o trio e formaram uma dupla que passou a se chamar “Milionário e José Rico”. Nesse mesmo ano gravaram o primeiro disco. O sucesso só veio em 1973, quando gravaram pela Continental/Chantecler.

O sucesso maior da dupla se firmou em 1978, com a música “Estrada da Vida”, uma canção rancheira de autoria de José Rico que deu título ao disco. A música deu origem ao filme homônimo, baseado na vida dos dois artistas, que foi um grande sucesso.

Após a gravação do vigésimo disco, em 1991, Milionário e José Rico passaram três anos separados. Ambos tentaram seguir carreira formando outra dupla, mas em 1994 voltaram a cantar juntos, e lançaram o LP volume 21, com o título “Nasci Para Te Amar”, junto com o CD, o primeiro da dupla.

No dia 3 de março de 2015, a dupla perdeu o cantor José Rico, que faleceu na cidade de Americana, em São Paulo, vítima de problemas cardíacos.
