I'm not sure about the intents of makers of this app, but it's more than providing a dictionary. It installs 1266 files in 530+ folders requiring 25 MiB (a famous English dictionary app is 7MiB, 38 folders, 313 files). This asks for 31 permissions, including camera and flashlight, for some reason. Another Devil's Dictionary app on Play is only 109 KiB with its 32 files in 30 folders, and requests only 7 permissions. Furthermore, this won't work unless I allow it's, imo, unnecessary permissions.

About this app

The Devil’s Dictionary is not an ordinary dictionary that you find in the bookstores. It is a dictionary by journalist and writer Ambrose Bierce and this ebook is a compilation of his 3 decade work for his readers. This eBook was initially written in segments for magazines and newspaper and it was later compiled in a book known as he Cynic's Word Book, but in 1911, its title was changed to The Devil’s Dictionary.

The works of Bierce are all in the English language and this dictionary can be read offline. For all those ebook readers who enjoy reading quick-witted and humorous books, then this is the perfect app for you. Here is a sample of what the book has to offer:-

ARCHITECT, n. One who drafts a plan of your house, and plans a draft of your money.

OCEAN, n. A body of water occupying about two-thirds of a world made for man--who has no gills.

PAIN, n. An uncomfortable frame of mind that may have a physical basis in something that is being done to the body, or may be purely mental, caused by the good fortune of another.

PATIENCE, n. A minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue.

PEACE, n. In international affairs, a period of cheating between two periods of fighting.

How does one read The Devil’s Dictionary? Since the dictionary is not an ordinary dictionary, one does not search for words. The reader goes through the dictionary chapter by chapter as how one reads a book. This extraordinary book will definitely leave the Ebook Reader with uncontrollable laughter and wanting for more.
