Tamil Village Gospel Mission was started in Tirunelvelli district of Tamilnadu state in South India in a remote village named Marakattu villai where the idea of establishing TVGM took place, which is also the birth place of the Founder Bro.P.T.Christopher.
He got the calling of Christ when he was a student in Bethel Institute of Danishpet, Salem, when the Lord said to him “fulfill your ministry" and showed him a village named Semponvellai near his place of birth. Bro.P.T.Christopher, listening to the call distributed New Testaments to all the families of that village and thus the mission started informally as "Semponvellai for Christ" - which was the unofficial name given to this ministry when it commenced on January 1st, 1979.
After having completed the task the Lord had given him he shared his testimony in a local church. When God spoke to him again He gave him the vision to reach every village of Tamilnadu in South India, with the population of over 55 million souls. So, to acheive this task the Tamil Village Gospel Mission was officially registered on April 29th, 1979. To fulfill this vision and moreover, for the ease of administration the head office was shifted to the central district of Tamilnadu, which is the current place called Tiruchirapalli. It started off in a rental building and changed to different places in the same Tiruchirapalli district. Later, the Lord provided the land when the mission established its Head Office in a place named Somarasampettai in Trichy which is the present Head Office location. Initially, the founder Bro.P.T.Christopher under-went many struggles to establish the work of the Lord but the Lord the Provider gave him the strength to overcome all the difficulties and helped him attain this height of winning so many souls for Christ.
