Tenali Raman was a witty and humorous character, and was primarily a poet. He was one of the eight important poets, called Ashtadiggajas, in the court of Vijaynagar.

His existence is known two be in 1520s. He became a legendary figure when he was a poet at the court of Raja Krushnadevraya. He is remembered even today for his brilliant wit, humour and wisdom.
