About this app

Moby Dick; or, The Whale

Reading challenges are so much fun. Whether you’re a seasoned reading challenge pro or a total newbie, this is for you. The goal for this reading challenge is to finish 1 book within 1 month. If you don't know where to start, this app suits you well.

The theme for this round is "Back to the Classics". Featuring all-time favorite classic series that have been made into movies and TV series. It's a C-L-A-S-S-I-C, you can't hate it.

So begins one of the most popular and beloved classic novels of all time, Moby Dick; or the Whale.
Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read, Moby Dick; or the Whale tells the adventures of wandering sailor Ishmael, and his voyage on the whaleship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael soon learns that Ahab has one purpose on this voyage: to seek out Moby Dick, a ferocious, enigmatic white sperm whale. In a previous encounter, the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg, which now drives Ahab to take revenge.

Moby-Dick is a masterpiece of storytelling, a tale for the ages that sounds the deepest depths of the human soul. The author's keen powers of observation and firsthand knowledge of shipboard life (he served aboard a whaler himself) were key ingredients in crafting a maritime story that dramatically examines the conflict between man and nature. Much of Moby Dick was inspired by the 1821 work Narratives of the Wreck of the Whale-Ship Essex, which in turn inspired the 2015 movie In the Heart of the Sea, directed by Ron Howard and starring Chris Hemsworth.
