Why am I forced to log in for a mahjong play aid?

Good idea wrapped behind "always online". App does not work without an account or internet yet has no readily obvious benefits from online to begin with. Very short sighted. What if I need to turn on airplane mode to make sure my messages aren't seen by the other players, exactly? Edit: they added in a DND mode, so I added one star. Should still allow me to play offline and without account. Does support double ron.
