சைவ சமயத்திற்குப் பிரமாண நூல்களாகத் திகழ்பவை பன்னிரு திருமுறைகள். இவை தெய்வத்தன்மை வாய்ந்தவை. பல அற்புதங்களை நிகழ்த்தியவை. இறைவனுக்கே நித்தலும் தமிழ் கேட்கும் இச்சை ஏற்படுத்தியவை. இவற்றை நித்தலும் நியமத்துடன் ஓதுவோர் பெறும் பலன் அளவிடற்கரியது.

தெய்வத் திருமுறைகளை ஓலைச் சுவடிகளில் படி எடுத்து, வரும் தலைமுறைகளுக்காக உதவிய முன்னோர்களுக்குச் சைவ உலகம் நன்றி செலுத்தக் கடமைப் பட்டுள்ளது. அச்சுத் தொழில் வந்தவுடன் இவற்றைப் புத்தக வடிவில் அச்சேற்றத் தொடங்கினர். அண்மைக் காலமாகக் காகிதவிலையும் அச்சுக்கூலியும் கடுமையாக உயர்ந்துவிட்டதால் புத்தகங்களின் விலை சாமானியர்கள் வாங்கும் அளவிற்கு இல்லை. இதற்கிடையில் வலைத் தளங்களின் வாயிலாக நூல்களைப் படிக்கவும் பலர் வகை செய்துள்ளனர். ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் படி எழுதும்போது பிழைகள் நுழைந்து விடுவது இயற்கை. அவற்றைத் திருத்தி வெளியிடாவிட்டால் மூல நூல்களில் அவை நிரந்தரமாக நிலை பெற்று விடும்.
