About this app

The medieval knight’s clothing actually consists of a series of garments, chain mail and iron plate. The Knight wore underclothes to prevent the armor from chafing his skin. The Knight will also put on padded garments which are worn on top of the underclothing as extra padding. Then the Knight will put on a surcoat which is a robe. The surcoat will be emblazoned with the coat of arms or symbol to identify the Knight in battle.
The armor used by a medieval knight was vital to protect his body from various weapons which were commonly used in battle such as the two-handed sword, bow and arrow, crossbow, battle axe, dagger and lance.
A knight’s suit of armor had to be tailor-made to fit the knight exactly. An imperfect fit would hamper the knight’s ability to fight during battle. Plate armor was first introduced during the late 13th century. Eventually, full plate armor was introduced during the 15th century and weigh about 50 lbs.
The medieval knight’s armor consists of many different parts. For example, the Sabatons were the armor for the feet and consisted of riveted iron plates on the boots. These are the part of the armor to be put on first.
The hand armors are the knight’s gloves and were called Gauntlets and had ringed metal plates over the fingers. Spikes called Gadlings were then attached to the knuckles of gauntlets. The Chest Armor was referred to as the Breast Plate.
