Nome Científico

Seu nome científico significa: do (grego) sporos = semente; e philos = que gosta,
amigo; e do (latim) collaris = com colar.

Características

Mede aproximadamente de 11,5 centímetros de comprimento e pesa entre 7,5 e 14 gramas.
Espécie vistosa e de bico rombudo e negro.
O macho possui plumagem de complicado padrão preto e branco ou preto e amarelado-canela.
Altos e lados da cabeça negros com duas pequenas máculas supra e infra-oculares brancas,
dorso anterior, asas e cauda negros, dorso posterior cinzento, larga faixa peitoral negra,
espéculo e garganta brancos. O resto da plumagem tanto pode ser branco quase puro como canela bem pronunciada.
A fêmea e os jovens da espécie são pardos.
Vocalização: Gorjear de andamento rápido, com poucas oscilações para o agudo e o grave,
misturado a chilreados, podendo imitar outras aves.

Reprodução

Faz o ninho em formato de taça. Cada ninhada geralmente tem entre 2 e 3 ovos, tendo de 2 a 4 ninhadas por temporada. Os filhotes nascem após 13 dias.

Hábitos

Vive nos pântanos de vegetação alta. Gosta de esfregar os lados da cabeça acima dos olhos,
mantendo-os fechados. Dorme em capinzais altos, taboais e canaviais.

Ocorre do Espírito Santo ao Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Paraguai, Uruguai e Argentina.
