About this app

Geoboard is like a bulletin board -- you have to get close enough to see what is on it. The technology is also known as geofencing and location based messaging. You might ask why you would want to stick a message in a location rather than send it to a person, so here are some reasons:

-- you might want to stick a message near the grocery store, or any store, to remind yourself or someone else to get something from there if in its vicinity;
-- if you own a store, you might want stick messages near it to offer people special deals when they are in the area;
- when public and private channels are supported, Geoboard could be like a Twitter (tm) for location based channels.

The first version of the Geoboard server supported the conventional bulletin board model permitting messages to be sent to and read from your current position, specific addresses, cities, and postal codes. This version adds the ability to create public and private (optionally passcode protected) channels for messages.

There is no personal identifying information saved in public channels. For passcode protected private channels, the UDID of the device that created the message is saved encrypted in the database for the life of the channel (not longer than 2 hours currently), and the UDID of the device that sends and receives messages on these channels is saved encrypted for the life of the message. After channels and messages are purged, they are gone for good.

New features

Added a verify passcode field that is used when creating passcode protected channels.
Fixed a timing issue that could cause the app to crash when the app was in the background and was restarted.
Fixed handling sending and received messages from specific locations.
