‘তোমাকে’ মূলত একটি মিশ্র উপন্যাস। এখানে যেমন উঠে এসেছে ৩ বোন এবং তাদের বাবার ভালবাসার এক পারিবারিক গল্প, তেমনিভাবে এসেছে ২ উঠতি বয়সী ২ বোনের ভালোলাগা ভালোবাসার গল্পও। উপন্যাসের কাহিনীতে দেখা যায়, নিলু-বিলু নামে ২ জমজ বোন থাকে তাদের মা তাদের ছোট বোনের জন্মের পর এক অন্য পুরুষের সাথে পালিয়ে যায়। এরপর বাবার একক ভালবাসায় তারা ৩ বোন বেড়ে উঠতে থাকে। একসময় তারা খুঁজে পায় তাদের ভালোবাসার মানুষকে। এর মধ্যেই ঘটে আরও নানান ঘটনা।

এই বইটি পরতে গেলে মনে হয়, এই বইটি এই সমাজেরই অনেক মানুষের প্রতিচ্ছবি। এখানে যেমন রয়েছে ছেলে সন্তান প্রাপ্তির এক প্রবল আকাঙ্খা, আছে পরকীয়ার সম্পর্কের কথা, সেটি নিয়ে সমাজের প্রতিকুলতার কথা প্রভৃতির কথা। আবার অন্য দিকে একটি মেয়ের বয়ঃসন্ধিকালের যে মানসিকতা, কাউকে ভালোলাগার যে প্রবল আকাঙ্ক্ষা, সেটিও উঠে এসেছে এই উপন্যাসে।উঠে এসেছে মেয়েদের নানান গোপন কথাও। মোট কথায় সমাজের বিভিন্ন চরিত্রের প্রতিচ্ছবিই এই ‘তোমাকে’।

আমাদের সমাজ প্রেক্ষাপটে দেখা যায়, সমাজের কিছু শ্রেণীর মানুষ এবং তাদের সংকীর্ণ ধ্যান ধারণার জন্য কিছু না করা সত্তেও অনেককে অনেক বিড়ম্বনার শিকার হতে হয়, কিন্তু আজও কি সমাজ মুক্তি পেতে পারবে না এসব চিন্তা ভাবনাকে ঝেড়ে ফেলে সামনের দিকে অগ্রসর হতে!
