La App Premià de Mar forma part del projecte KM2 Ciutat impulsat per la Diputació de Barcelona, l’Ajuntament de Sabadell, l’Ajuntament de Viladecans, l’Ajuntament de l'Hospitalet, l’Ajuntament de Premià de Mar, iEARN-Pangea i la Fundació Itinerarium.


El projecte està obert a la participació de l'administració local, centres d'ensenyament, empreses i emprenedors, comerços i qualsevol altra organització. Els participants formen part d'una xarxa comunitària orientada a fer aflorar el potencial cultural, associatiu, educatiu, comercial i turístic d'una zona de la ciutat i a fomentar l'acció social per millorar la qualitat de vida dels seus habitants.

L’objectiu principal de la iniciativa és beneficiar els habitants del territori, involucrant ordinadors, dispositius mòbils i routers, però sobretot estudiants, mestres, ciutadans, entitats, comerços i administracions locals, en el desenvolupament i transformació de la seva pròpia comunitat, utilitzant tecnologies de geolocalització i metodologies de treball col·laboratiu.

Involucra la comunitat local perquè utilitzi una plataforma de geolocalització (un mapa al qual es pot accedir des d’un dispositiu mòbil o un ordinador) per accedir a informació vinculada al territori.
