Hadits Arba’in Nawawiyah adalah kumpulan 42 hadits Nabi saw yang dikumpulkan oleh Imam Nawawi ra. dan merupakan kitab yang tidak asing bagi kita umat Islam, bukan hanya di Indonesia namun di seluruh dunia. Umat Islam mengenalnya dan akrab dengannya, karena banyak dibahas oleh para ulama dan menjadi rujukan dalam menyebarkan ajaran Islam kepada kaum muslimin berkaitan dengan kehidupan beragama, ibadah, muamalah dan syariah.
Mungkin Imam Nawawi dalam mengumpulkan hadits-hadits ini ter inspirasi dengan hadits Rasulullah saw yang diriwayatkan oleh Imam Ali, Abdullah bin Mas’ud, Mu’adz bin Jabal, Abi Darda, Ibnu Umar, Ibnu Abbas, Anas bin Malik, Abu Hurairah, Abu Sa’id Al-Khudhri –semoga Allah meridhai mereka semua- dari berbagai metode periwayatan- bahwa Rasulullah saw bersabda, “Barangsiapa yang menghafal dari umatku 40 hadits –yang berisi di dalamnya- akan perkara agamanya, maka Allah akan membangkitkannya di hari kiamat nanti bersama golongan para fuqaha dan ulama”. Dalam riwayat lain disebutkan, “Allah akan membangkitkannya sebagai seorang faqih dan alim”. Dan dalam riwayat Abu Darda, “Aku pada hari kiamat akan menjadi pemberi syafaat dan saksi“. Dan dalam riwayat Ibnu Mas’ud, “Dikatakan kepadanya: Masuklah kamu pada pintu mana yang kamu suka”. Dan dalam riwayat Ibnu Umar, “Akan ditulis bersama golongan para ulama dan dibangkitkan bersama para syuhada”.
