About this app

Circular Chemistry Challenge:
The Circular Chemistry Challenge is a fun and educational game that teaches players about
sustainable chemistry and the principles of the circular economy. Designed as part of the Erasmus+
Project "Circular Chemistry in the Digital Era" the game offers an engaging way for players to
explore real-world environmental challenges, all while learning about topics like chemical pollution,
sustainable product creation, and renewable energy. Players are tasked with solving these
challenges while balancing resources and making strategic decisions that contribute to sustainability.
Gameplay Overview
The game consists of six main missions, each focused on an essential aspect of circular chemistry and
sustainability. Players work in teams to complete these missions by answering questions, gathering
resources, and solving unpredictable challenges. The game emphasizes teamwork, strategic thinking,
and problem-solving skills, as players must weigh the environmental impact of their decisions
against the goal of making a profit in a sustainable business environment.
Missions
There are six main missions in the Circular Chemistry Challenge, each of which is related to a specific
area of sustainable chemistry:
1. Towards Zero Chemical Pollution – Focuses on reducing pollution and its ecological impact.
2. Sustainable Chemicals for the Circular Economy – Encourages players to create and use chemicals
that can be reused or recycled.
3. Safety and Sustainability Standards Outside the EU – Emphasizes the importance of global
standards in using waste as a resource.
4. Strengthening the EU's Strategic Autonomy – Involves chemistry and energy independence to
ensure sustainability.
5. Production of By-Design Chemicals – Explores the creation of renewable energy from chemical
processes.
6. A Strengthened Chemical Science-Policy Interface – Promotes understanding of the role of policy
in advancing the circular economy.

Cards and Resources

The game uses four main types of cards to guide players through the missions and help them solve
problems creatively:

1. Main Mission Cards – These cards outline the six primary missions related to circular chemistry
that players will work on throughout the game.
2. Secondary Mission Cards – These cards provide additional questions and tasks that help players
progress toward the main mission. There are two types of secondary mission cards:
- Strategy-related Questions – These questions help players earn points by solving strategic issues
related to the mission.
- Resource Questions – These prompt players to think about the types of resources they will need
to complete their mission but do not award points directly.
3. Resource Cards – These cards represent the various resources that players can acquire to help
solve problems and complete their missions. Resources include:
- Money
- Technological Know-How
- Organizational Skills
- Mixed Resources
- The resources come in specific and non-specific categories, offering players flexibility in how they
approach each problem.
4. Challenge Cards – These cards introduce unpredictable events that test player's ability to adapt
and solve real-world problems creatively. Challenge cards come in two varieties:
- Game Challenge Cards – Worth 50 points and provide difficult but rewarding challenges.
- Player Challenge Cards – Worth 30 points and are typically used to create direct challenges
between players.

The more cards a player uses, the stronger their ideas become, making it easier to prove that their
solution is viable.
