Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) was established in the year 1998 as an affiliated institution under the University of Madras. Later it was affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. In 2004, the institution attained the status of university under the ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (VMRF) – Deemed to be University Salem under sec.3 of UGC act 1956.AVIT is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Council of Architecture (COA), Govt of India. The institution is located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) in a sprawling 24.11-acre land with a built-up area of 5.65 Lakhs Sq.ft. The institution is committed to impart quality education to the students from different socio-economic backgrounds. The institution offers under-graduate programmes in ten different disciplines including B.Arch and seven post-graduate programmes including Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Full-time (Regular) mode. The institute is also offering five undergraduate programmes and six post graduate programmes in Part-Time (Regular) mode. The campus has a Broadband Wi-Fi connectivity enabling the students to access internet 24 X 7 with 200 Mbps bandwidth.
The institution is NAAC accredited. Major programmes were accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).The University has introduced Structured Choice based Credit System(SCBCS) for all the programmes and adopted Outcome based Education(OBE).The Institution has introduced Skill based learning, Research based learning in the Teaching and Learning process.
The institution has adequate number of classrooms and infrastructure for labs with state of the art equipments. The Institution has central computing facility in addition to the computer facilities attached to every department. The Institution has a well-stocked Library with adequate textbooks, reference books, National and International journals, DVD Library and e-learning facilities in the digital library. The Library has National Digital Library (NDA) access and installed Swayam Prabha DTH Channel facility for Swayam/NPTEL and other MOOC online courses. The management believes in overall development of the students and hence motivates the students in a number of co – curricular and extracurricular activities. The institution encourages participation and membership in Professional Societies for both students and staff. The Professional Society Chapters in the College are Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers ( IEEE ), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers ( IETE ), IEEE – Communication Society, IEEE - Computer Society,IEEE – Power and Energy Society, Society of Automotive Engineers ( SAE ), Indian Institute of Production Engineers ( IIPE ), IEEE – Women In Engineering Society (IEEE – WIE ), Broadcasting Engineers Society of India ( BES), International Society of Automation ENFUSE and Indian Institute Metals(IIM).
Every department is active in conducting Intercollegiate Seminars, Workshops, National Conferences and Faculty Development Programmes. The students are prepared for community orientation through the NSS Units. Three NSS Units with 300 members (boys and girls) and 3 NSS officers actively conduct blood donation camps, village adoption programmes and literacy programmes. The Management has a vision to conduct outreach programmes for societal dropouts. Based on the community outreach of the institution, MHRD has approved the institution for implementing Unnat Bharath Abhiyan(UBA) Scheme from the year 2018. The management believes in collaborative projects and hence has established with industries and research organizations. The institution has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bosch, Intel, Tech Mahindra, Infosys campus connect,GSS corp Japan, Satsang Research Institute, Baba Clinical and Genomic Research Centre , Chennai, NASSCOM, ICTACT,IYF and many more.
