ফার্সিভাষায় কাব্য রচনা করে শেখ সাদি পৃথিবীবিখ্যাত। তাঁর লেখা গুলিস্তা ও বুস্তা বিশ্বসাহিত্যে উজ্জ্বল স্থান অধিকার করে আছে। তিনি প্রথম দিকে কিশোরদের জন্য উপদেশমূলক গল্প ও কবিতা লিখতেন। মানুষের সামগ্রিক বিকাশকে লক্ষ্য রেখেই তিনি গল্প,কবিতা রচনা করতেন। কল্যাণমূলক ও শিক্ষনীয় অসংখ্য রেখা লিখে গেছেন। তার সেসব উপদেশমালা আজো সবার কাছে সমান গুরুত্ব বহন করে। ফার্সি সাহিত্যে একটি প্রবাদ আছে— ‘সাতজন কবির সাহিত্যকর্ম রেখে যদি বাকি সাহিত্য দুনিয়া থেকে মুছে ফেলা হয়, তবু ফার্সি সাহিত্য টিকে থাকবে। এই সাতজন কবির অন্যতম শেখ সাদি।’

আল্লামা শেখ সাদী র. বলেন, মূর্খদের দলের মাঝে যদি কোন জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তির কথা বন্ধ হয়ে যায়, তাহলে আশ্চর্য হয়োনা । কেননা, তবলার শব্দ ঢোলের শব্দের উপর বিজয়ী হয়। এবং মেশক আম্বরের ঘ্রাণ রসুনের গন্ধের মধ্যে বিলুপ্ত হয়ে যায়। উচ্চ আওয়াজ বিশিষ্ট অজ্ঞ মানুষেরা গলাবাজী করে, যাতে জ্ঞানীদিগকে নির্লজ্জ ভাবে পরাস্ত করতে পারে। সে জানেনা যে, হেজাযী বাজনার সুমধুর তান নট ঢােলের আওয়াজের নিকট পরাজিত হয়ে যায়।
