El Iaido es un arte marcial japonés, relacionado con el desenvainado y el envainado de la katana. Era practicado por los Samuráis, especialmente en el periodo Edo. Estas técnicas surgen especialmente para poder atacar o defenderse a la vez que se desenvainaba, comenzando por tanto el enfrentamiento con el sable aún en la Salla o Vaina, desenvainando con la velocidad adecuada para poder atacar o contraatacar al oponente sin darle tiempo a reaccionar.

Do, significa Vía o Camino. En su sentido utilitario, el Iaido es el arte de estar atento y dispuesto para responder en cualquier situación o momento, sea cual sea la forma de ataque del adversario.
Considerado bajo el aspecto ético moral formativo, el Iaido se identifica como la Vía para alcanzar la Unidad y la Armonía del Cuerpo y del Espíritu, y ello implica vivir dicha armonía con los demás y con el entorno.
