This app certainly helped me to visualize and improve narratives, but it feels somewhat inflexible and might not work for some stories. It would be nice to have more options relating to major story events and to narrative relationships between characters. All in all, it is easy-to-use and does its job pretty well despite needing a few improvements. Definitely a good tool for writers.

It is great to use and also advices what you can change in your story to make it better. Great app.

Writers need each other to keep going. This app not only gives a structured approach to writing a novel, it also provide a link to helpful blog posts from the author who put this together. This app is a treasure trove and a labor of love. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing.

This app needs way more freedom to change & add things. My novel doesn't have a character that can be considered "the" antagonist because it takes place in a huge Galactic war, there are hundreds of bad guys & hundreds of good guys. I had to look up what a chorus is & my book doesn't have that either. This app isn't adaptable to war centered "hard" sci-fi with brutal realism & multiple plot points in one novel. 6 characters? Try my 60+ fully developed characters, whom all matter for the story.

First, I'd like to say this app is amazing overal. But because I dont have much space, I'd like to focus on ways you can improve this app. The character roles are flawed. In my story, the 'chorus' is also the protaginist. The 'dreamer' could be described as more than one person, and an opponent turns into an ally. I'd really like to see a more creative way to assign character roles, so that the final report is a little more accurate. That is all there is to complain about though, otherwise 10/10

I feel like this would be a really great app for writing short stories, stories with more 'conventional' characters, and/or straightforward plots. The app is well-designed and easy to use, but ultimately overly simplistic for what I'm working on. Honestly, I recommend trying this app if you think it might help you out! It just wasn't for me.

About this app

Narrative Nods is a story development app that helps fiction writers transform their ideas into coherent, powerful plots.

Taking into consideration a vast number of variables from information the user provides about characters, structure, and the overall story goal, it creates narrative possibilities ("nods") that assist the author in selecting dynamic, sense-making plots.

How do the protagonist's character traits affect the story? In which way does the character role of the opponent influence the creation of a narratively solid novel? And how do narrative choices and journeys affect the ending of the book?

Narrative Nods helps you make critical decisions about your story, at the same time explaining in a clear, easy-to-understand manner the literary theory behind these storytelling decisions.

The developer is a published author with a PhD in English literature.
