हिन्दू धर्मानुसार प्रत्येक महीने की एकादशी तिथि को भगवान विष्णु की पूजा की जाती है। इस दिन एकादशी व्रत किया जाता है। वैष्णव समाज और हिन्दू धर्म के लिए एकादशी व्रत महत्वपूर्ण और पुण्यकारी माना जाता है।

n Hinduism and Jainism it is considered a spiritual day and is usually observed by a partial fast. Beans and grains are not consumed during Ekadasi because it is believed that they are contaminated by sin. Only fruit, vegetables, and milk products are eaten during Ekadasi. This period of abstinence runs from sunrise on the day of Ekadasi to sunrise on the following day.

Hindu rules state that anyone between eight years and eighty years old should fast which includes not drinking water. However, people who are sick, have health issues, or are pregnant are exempted and may take light food including milk and fruits.

एकादशी व्रत के लिए दशमी के दिन सुबह स्नान करने के बाद भगवान विष्णु की आराधना करना चाहिए तथा रात को पूजा स्थल के समीप सोना चाहिए। अगले दिन उठाकर (एकादशी) प्रात: स्नान के बाद व्यक्ति को पुष्प, धूप आदि से भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करते हुए निम्न मंत्र का उच्चारण करना चाहिए:

एकादशी निराहारः स्थित्वाद्यधाहं परेङहन।

भोक्ष्यामि पुण्डरीकाक्ष शरणं में भवाच्युत।।
