Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Mental Abacus Book 2 on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. My initial impression a few days in is that this program is very good overall, and excellent in teaching the details of working problems out on the abacus. It follows up nicely from book 1 (addition and subtraction). Aside from a few minor grammatical issues, it it well laid out and explains in small steps with plenty of illustrated examples and interactive diagrams that really set the principles firmly in mind. I was particularly impressed with the 'mulitplicative pithy' method, which takes the standard speed and accuracy of multiplication up to a higher level. Be forewarned, though, that this method will require some work in memorizing some foundational stuff before it can be used to full potential. I'm allocating 4 stars at this time since although there are plenty of tricks for mental math, haven't seen anything yet on internalizing the abacus as the name of program would suggest. Will update further if needed as I progress through the course.
