زبان کُردی، زبانی اصیل و کهن با قواعد و دستور زبان خاص
کردی یک زنجیره گویشی از زبان‌های هندواروپایی در شاخهٔ زبان‌های ایرانی غربی است که کردها هم اینک با آن سخن می‌گویند
زبانهای کردی از زبانهای ایرانی شاخه شمال غربی هستند که با زبان فارسی و بلوچی خویشاوندی دارند.
زبان‌های کردی در هر شهر و حتی روستاهای نزدیک به هم الفاظ و تفاوت‌هایی هر چند جزیی نیز دار که این موضوع در دو استان کردستان و ایلام شایع تر است و در استان کرمانشاه تفاوت‌ها در این حد نیست.
زبانهای کردی شباهتهایی به زبانهای بلوچی، گیلکی، و تالشی دارد، این زبان‌ها نیز متعلق به زیرگروه شمال غربی زبانهای ایرانی هستند. از دیگر زبانهای مشابه به زبان‌های کردی که زیرگروه جنوب غربی زبانهای ایرانی به‌شمار میایند، لری و فارسی هستند؛ که هرکدام در مناطق وسیعی تکلم می‌شوند.
گویش‌های مختلف عمدتاً در بخشهایی از ایران، عراق، سوریه و ترکیه مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرد. جمعیتهای پراکنده کرد همچنین درجمهوری آذربایجان، ارمنستان، لبنان و اسرائیل نیز زندگی می‌کنند.
