This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Concise Irish Sign Language on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.

I think the app is brilliant and well thought out. My only issue with it is my app doesn't have the high quality images, all I have is the video so I miss some stuff. Would be great to get that fixed. Otherwise, brilliant job

Great app. I have just recently begun to learn ISL and want some friends of mine to take it up with me and this is a great resource to do that.

I love this app. It's definitely worth the money but please add more countries such as Poland. I am Polish and I was angry that I couldn't even sign where I am from. I had to finger spell it. Also more animals like 'frog' because I had to finger spell it as well and I love frogs. Also, please add a category "Languages" and a verb "to speak" :D

Very useful, being studying ISL for a while now and this is a great reference resource app. You can even request additional words to be signed on the updates to the app. This is a gud 'un. Hats off guys keep up the great work. Check out the Twitter feed for the app informative

Brilliant videos and images of the hand shapes. I'd only recommend including a written description of each sign, because it's hard to tell how many repetitions of some motions there are.

I just purchased and installed the app now but when opened it appeared to load for a few seconds and then just closed. I don't know why, maybe incompatible or outdated systems, regardless of the reason it simply didn't open for me so I couldn't even try it. What a shame.

About this app

Concise ISL is an Irish Sign Language (ISL) video dictionary which contains approximately 1000 signs.

This mobile app was developed by two young Irish engineers, one of whom is a life-long practitioner of Irish Sign Language, in response to the need for digital resources to support sign language learning in Ireland. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive ISL dictionary system in an easy-to-use form.

Each sign contained within Concise ISL is presented in video form and accompanied by high quality images of the component signs for each hand.

All signs can be sorted by category, an organisational approach chosen to support learning.

Specific words and categories can be easily found within Concise ISL, using a simple and efficient search interface, swipe gestures, sliding menus and other intuitive interaction mechanisms.

This app is designed to be child-appropriate, with the inclusion of a large number of signs in categories such as Animals, Colours, Food, Sports and many others.

Through the inclusion of signs such as "texting", "tablet", "facebook" and many more, this ISL dictionary reflects the modern context of the language.

Concise ISL currently includes approximately 1000 signs, a figure which we have continuously strived to increase.

Concise ISL supports offline use. A data connection is required to download signs for the first time. These videos are then stored on-device for subsequent viewing offline. This approach allows the inclusion of such a large number of signs without imposing the consumption of a significant amount of on-device memory on all users. The video size has been carefully calculated to reduce bandwidth consumption.

Concise ISL also includes a number of additional sections containing information concerning the history of ISL, the grammatical structure of the language and more.
