It doesn't beat the desktop version but I guess simplicity is the priority here. What I really love about it is the ReplayGain scanner. There's only one small problem: it completely quits the app when you clear it from recent apps. I prefer to exit it by a close option in the notification just like other players. Also it would be nice if you add AAudio and include one track repeat in the repeat toggle of playback page. Update: I have to force stop it when I connect to BT 'cause it stops playing.

While the UI leaves something to be desired (namely an editable playback queue, a tag viewer, and multi-select in the library and playlist views), this is still one of the top 10 music players for Android. Why? Stability, performance, capability, and output flexibility. Foobar handles large collections of music without crashing, offers perfect gapless playback, a variety of DSPs, support for streaming radio & media servers, and sports a library with configurable whitelisting + blacklisting.

With the VERSION 1.4 update, FOOBAR2000 required me to completely reestablish the location of my music files -- which took me about an hour to figure OUT that ther was a major problem & how to FIX it. Finally, I got the app to recognize the folder, but for a good while, the interface kept giving me 'Playback error: Invalid path' errors when I try to get the app to scan for my music files & folders on either the internal drive or the SD card. This update deleted the app's file allocations.

9/30/2023 - Looks like file access has been lost. This app is not working on my pixel 6 pro. On 9/29/2023 the app was working for me. I cannot give file access permissions; the app is not requesting them. My files are not found, but I confirm they exist with the Files app. Maybe some kind of popup message on how I can reimport songs would be helpful if there is a new method.

Foobar mobile app makes for a great minimal music player with no ads and some great dsp tools. I can always rely on foobar to 'just work' pretty much all the time, which I appreciate. The new update with new media library scan and tempo modification is cool, too. But I do wish there were a way to save/store a few different eq settings.

I love this player! Just hoping .shn files will be supported in the near future, as I don't believe ANY mobile player out there does. *Edit: My Music Folder is no longer accessible, so I took back 4 stars. Please fix this, as I have close to 1TB of music in this app. *EDIT #2: I uninstalled then reinstalled the app and now it's back to working perfectly. 5stars again lol
