Tommy J Pisa mengawali karier musik pada tahun 1985. Tak tanggung-tanggung di tahun pertamanya dia langsung menelurkan dua album, yaitu, Cinta & Harapan dan Biarkan Aku Menangis. Selama karier musiknya, Tommy menghasilkan 10 album musik dan dua single. Lagu Bandara Cinta dirilis 1993 merupakan single terakhir Tommy.

Setelah itu Tommy merilis album kompilasi The Best of Tommy J Pisa yang berisi 10 lagu.Selain album musik pop, Tommy juga pernah merilis tiga album dangdut. Album tersebut berjudul Nasib Pengamen, Dia Sahabat Karibku, dan Air Mata Perpisahan.

Selain bermusik, Tommy juga pernah terjun di dunia akting. Ia menjadi aktor utama film romantis Kamus Cinta Sang Primadona yang rilispada 1988. Dalam film tersebut Tommy berakting dengan Connie Constantia, Agyl Syahriar, Anie Carera, Ida Kusumah, dan Sylvana Herman.
