Original Jam TV was made to allow local viewers to see the vibrant, world-class video from our home island nation of Jamaica. After founding Jam TV in 2003, we began broadcasting on cable TV until our contract ended with the local cable provider in 2006.
Though this chapter of Original Jam TV was over, it wasn’t going to prevent us from achieving our goals. For those three amazing years, we provided our viewers with live performances from the hottest artists, hit music, fresh happenings, and up-to-date news coverage related to the music world.
Now, more than a decade later, we have not forgotten the values we were founded on and the longstanding tradition we once had. Now settled in the tropical paradise of the coastal city Miami, Florida, our sole mission is to bring entertainment to a wide array of audiences around the world and we don’t plan on going anywhere! Whether it’s a tune from the King of Reggae, a hit from megastars like Vybz Kartel, or an underground Hip-hop jam, Original Jam TV has you covered. We will show you our country’s rich history and the foundation of Reggae all without saying a word! Let the tunes speak for themselves!
Music has always been important to the culture of Jamaica, even from before colonial times until now. It is astounding that despite the tiny size of the island, Jamaican music has been able to reach and influence all over the globe. One of the most popular styles in Jamaica but lesser known in other parts of the world, Mento draws from many of Jamaica’s folk music styles and was the sound of the 1940s. Reggae shook the Jamaican music scene in the 1970s with its combination of the rock-steady beat with the Mento shuffle, with some American funk sprinkled in. This music style is what made Bob Marley a global icon and brought his sound to millions of people. Finally, Dancehall was seen as an evolution of Mento, with many Western styles that also influenced it. Clearly, Jamaica has a wide variety of music styles that are sure to please a diverse group of people, and we offer that music to you.
