About this app

With the Vinyl Explorer for android phones you have unlimited access to our on-line records database server with over 59,000 record entries of approximately 6500 individual artists and bands.
All records have been published in the period 1952-1995. From each record a cover is available!

Most of the records have been published in Germany (West), the former East Germany and in Europe. On records that are published only in a sleeve, we have deliberately omitted! You will find with us but many cover versions; for example are of the Beatles album "All You Need Is Love" 14 different versions from 9 different countries present.

You can search records by either entering the name of an artist, a band or record label. When looking for artists you may include the band members in the search; so you get when you enter "Eric Clapton" not only its own records, but also records of his his bands "Blind Faith", "Cream", "Derek & The Dominos" and "Yardbirds" (total 135 disks).

You can also search for disc titles if you want to know, for example, what song was also sung by which artist. No problem with more than 100,000 titles entries! The title search is done online on the disk server.

The VinylExplorer also has an "offline mode". Using the "Plattendatenbank 2015" (sold separately as a PC software, see below) you can create your own record lists and save them on your phone. From the server loaded cover pictures automatically can be stored locally on the phone, so they do not need to be accessed again.

All available information on individual artists, bands and record labels are displayed on a separate page of the app. If available, you can use the switch "Link for more info" to open a web page, for example, the Wikipedia entry of the artist.

The lists of all artists and label names are stored locally on your phone and can be updated at any time. So you are always up to date when we update the artist information or add new artists and labels in the database.

There are several ways to sort the displayed records, for example, by year of publication, artist name, record company or record title. Depending on the set sorting can be accessed quickly to a particular record with a special menu. Have you, for example, the plates of a record label by artist name, you can directly pick out the desired artist.

The app fits best at the existing resolution: In landscape mode, images are placed to the right of text entries. The recommended screen size is 7 inches or higher.

The app can be used with two surface styles ("Light" or "Dark", see figure).
The language of the user interface can be switched to German or English.
A detailed online help can be viewed with in the integrated browser of the app.

If you acquire the PC software "Plattendatenbank 2015" (on Ebay available for 29.80 EUR), we will give you a discount of 5 EUR. So get the purchase price of the app refunded!

Please note: Unfortunately, this app does not work on the new Android OS 5.x ("Lollipop"). In addition, some equipment is not supported, for example units with Intel Atom processor.
