About this app

Take a quiz in multiple-choice format to test your proficiency at the JLPT (日本語能力試験,
or Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N5 level by testing a combination of kanji, kana (kunyomi and onyomi), English and kanji stories. With a total of 13 combinations to choose from, not just kanji to English, but also kanji with English vs. kana, kanji with kana vs. English, kanji story vs. kanji, etc., this is one of the few apps which incorporates kanji stories.

You can compose your own kanji stories, or use the ones that are already defined in the kanji list, by defining the kanji radicals / primitives and using them to write personalized kanji stories.

Customize your quiz by selecting which UI elements will be displayed. For instance, you can set up a hint for every question by selecting one of these hint options:
• kanji
• kana
• English
• kanji story
• photo

where the last option allows you to take a photo with your phone and
show it during the quiz, thus creating a visual association with each kanji.

Make the quiz more challenging by mixing in multiple-choice answers from the N4 level together with the N5 level content. Also, you can include a quiz control question, which
randomly duplicates a question in the quiz and checks if you manage to answer it correctly both times, at random.

Both the number of questions and the number of answers can be adjusted for each quiz session. Every question and answer is randomized (both which questions and answers appear in the quiz and in which order they are arranged). On top of that, when possible, the correct answers are purposely removed from the list of the possible multiple-choice answers, thus preventing you from matching the old answers against the subsequent questions and guessing the correct answer by exclusion.

As there is no official JLPT kanji list since 2010, the kanji in this app have been collected from the pre-2010 JLPT exams, which are a total of 103 in number.
