About this app

CYC-Net started in the mid-1990’s as an eight member email-based discussion group of child and youth care practitioners, teachers and writers in South Africa, North America, Europe, the Middle-East and Australasia. By 1998 this group had grown to 200 and today stands at around 4000 members. The simple web site with which we started is today a comprehensive information repository of over fifty thousand text files.

CYC-Net is a network of thousands of people around the world, of all shapes, colours, languages, interests and skills, who are involved in the care of children, youth and families who for some reason are being looked after – for part of the time or all of the time. Our colleagues in CYC-Net are involved in all aspects of the care and upbringing of young people, or in the wider programs in which we work — direct care work, foster carers, educators, recreation leaders, social workers, psychologists, writers, administrators, trainers, consultants ...

CYC-Net is updated daily and receives hundreds of thousands of unique individual visitors each year.

CYC-Net makes it possible for all of these people to stay in touch with each other around the world, with news and developments in the field, readings and writings from all areas of study and at all levels; in short, for practitioners, supervisors, teachers and learners to keep in touch and to share problems and situations along with methods and solutions for doing their work with children and youth.

All of these people see themselves as workers and colleagues in their child and youth care practice and related work with challenged children and youth and their families, institutions and societies.
