About this app

JCUSafe is the official safety app of James Cook University (JCU). It is the only app that integrates with JCU's safety and security systems and provides, in one location, information on the University's security and safety plans and wellbeing resources. The unique app provides students and staff with safety information and features for James Cook University campuses including important safety alerts.

JCUSafe’s features include:
- Alert Security: Send your location to JCU Security and talk to them, in real-time, in case of an emergency on campus.
- Chat with Campus Security: Communicate live with JCU Security staff via chat.
- Emergency Contacts: Contact the correct services for the JCU campus areas in case of an emergency or a non-emergency concern.
- Safety Notifications: Receive instant notifications and instructions from JCU Safety when on-campus emergencies occur.
- Friend Walk: Send your location to a friend through email or SMS on your device. Once the friend accepts the Friend Walk request, the user picks their destination and their friend tracks their location in real time; they can keep an eye on them to make sure they make it safely to their destination.
- Virtual Security Escort: Allow JCU Security to monitor a user’s walk. If a user feels unsafe when walking on campus, they can request a Virtual Security Escort and a dispatcher on the other end will monitor their journey until they reach their destination.
- WorkAlone: Use the app to "check in" with you periodically while working alone or during late hours, on or off campus. If you don't respond, the app will alert JCU Security (on campus) or your personal emergency contact (off campus).
- Report a Concern: Multiple ways to report a safety/security concern directly to JCU Security.
- Safety Toolbox: Enhance your safety with the set of tools provided in one convenient place.
- Emergency Plans: Campus emergency information that can prepare you for disasters or emergencies. This can be accessed even when users aren’t connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data. Read it before you need it.
- Support Resources: Access a range of wellbeing support resources in one convenient place to enjoy a successful experience at JCU. Support for students and staff.
- I’m OK!: Send your location and a message indicating that "You’re OK" to a recipient of your choosing.
- Local Disaster Dashboards: Links to the local disaster dashboards run by the councils in our campus regions.
- Campus Map: Navigate around the Bebegu Yumba and Nguma-bada campuses.
- Campus Parking and Permit Info: Find information about how parking and permits work on JCU Bebegu Yumba and Nguma-bada campuses. Free, Permit and Casual parking and infringements.
