About this app

Cuckoo ( Cuculus ) is the central and one of the most widely represented genera of birds in the cuckoo family. Distributed in the eastern hemisphere with an especially large variety of species known in tropical Asia. These are small and medium-sized cuckoos which have an elegant physique long pointed wings a long tail and a short slightly curved beak. The tail is rounded or stepped in the second case sometimes they speak of an independent hawk-cuckoo family ( Hierococcyx ). The nares have a rounded shape surrounded by horny ridges. The legs are very short poorly adapted for climbing.

Coloring plumage patronizing most often gray-gray on top and with a dark transverse pattern from below. The darker upper side of the body is represented in two species: in Cuculus solitarius it is coal-gray in the black cuckoo as can be assumed from the name black. In addition in females of the ordinary deaf and small cuckoos there is a so-called red morph in which the entire upper part of the body is colored ocherous with frequent transverse strips of black color. In some forms of the black cuckoo there is no striped pattern on the chest and belly almost all the plumage looks black. Each species has a unique inimitable voice.

Biotopes are very diverse: from forest to completely open not associated with woody vegetation. All representatives of the genus are typical nesting parasites they throw eggs in the nest of song birds.
