About this app

Most developers I know listen to music while they code. When the meetings are over, the headphones come out.

And devs aren’t alone. According to a study Spotify conducted in 2014, 61% of people listen to music while they work — mostly to stay focused, and to drown out surrounding noise.

For years, the freeCodeCamp community has tinkered with shared streams of music that campers could all listen to together, wherever they were in the world.

First we experimented with a chatbot that could take song requests during our coding live streams. Then we used a website where campers could take turns DJ-ing. But both of these approaches ended up being more hands-on than we wanted. Campers just wanted some music to code to!

In mid 2017, our survey of 20,000 developers revealed that 3 out of 4 campers were already watching coding-related videos on YouTube. This seemed to be a natural place for us to stream music.
