In the Kannada-language news space, we have observed the absence of news analysis which goes beyond reporting facts. Newspapers and TV channels both face constraints of space and time. While online Kannada news portals do exist, majority of them are counterparts of newspapers, providing the same.
The internet is changing the news landscape in India, making it possible for independent organizations to do quality work and reach a wide audience, with limited resources.
Taking advantage of this, the team behind Pratidhvani aims to deliver high-quality journalism through in-depth reporting and news analysis rather than simply ‘breaking news’. Our objective is to raise the quality of public discourse by providing well-researched news and analysis which will help discerning readers form their opinion on important developments.
Pratidhvani is published by the non-profit organization, Truth Pro Foundation India (TPFI). Twin objective of TPFI is to work on meaningful education across social spectrum and promote independent journalism by publishing factual information prevailing in different pillars of our democracy.
A business model that relies heavily on advertising revenue restricts editorial independence. In response to this, Pratidhvani has been set up as a not-for-profit media outlet which relies on contributions from readers and citizens who believe in quality journalism, in addition to advertisements, for its sustenance.
