Pemerintah, melalui Kementerian Dalam Negeri (Kemendagri), terus berbenah terkait perekaman data dan identitas. Kini, selain Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP) untuk warga usia 17 tahun ke atas, juga ada Kartu Identitas Anak (KIA) atau KTP anak untuk usia 0-17 tahun.

IA, yang mulai digagas sejak tahun 2016, merupakan identitas resmi anak sebagai bukti diri anak yang berusia kurang dari 17 tahun dan belum menikah yang diterbitkan oleh Dinas Pendudukan dan Catatan Sipil atau Disdukcapil.

Kini, orang tua, setelah sang ibu melahirkan anak, tak hanya mengurus akta kelahiran, mereka harus membuat KIA untuk buah hatinya tersebut.

Pemberlakuan KIA atau KTP Anak dilakukan secara bertahap. Daerah yang belum mendapat giliran pemberlakuan, ke depan akan menyusul daerah berikutnya sebagaimana telah diatur di dalam Peraturan Menteri Dalam Negeri (Permendagri) No 2 Tahun 2016 mengenai Kartu Identitas Anak.
