The African Trader is a short story, but full of adventurous events.

When Harry was just about to leave school, his father suffered some business losses, as a result, his father fell ill and subsequently passed. Harry was left with some sisters, and an old faithful old black nanny whom they called Mammy. He did not want to be a burden to them so he decided to leave home and get a job. He boarded a trading vessel. His destination was African coast where he could trade with the natives.

Before he left, however, Mammy made him promised to look for her son, Cheebo, whom she had not seen for years.
