বাংলাদেশে আঙ্গুর চাষের সম্ভাবনা, প্রবাদ আছে আঙ্গুর ফল টক। আর এ কথাটি আমাদের জন্য বেশ কার্যকর এ কারণে যে এই ফলটি আমরা এদ্দিন ফলাতে পরিনি। পুরোটাই আমদানী করে যেতে হয়। উচ্চমূল্যের কারণে বরাবরই সাধারণের ধরা ছোঁয়ার বইরে থাকে। কখনও কেউ অসুস্থ হলে কিংবা কালেভ্রদ্রে সাধারণ পরিবারে আঙ্গুর খাওয়া হয়। কিন্তু আমদের মাটি ও জলবায়ু আঙ্গুর চাষের জন্য উপযোগী, এটা সমপ্রতি প্রমাণিত হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে দু'চারটি আঙ্গুর গাছ থাকলেও সেটা পরিবারের আওতার মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ।
একটি হিসাব করে দেখা গেছে, কৃষকের বসত ভিটার ৯ বর্গমিটার জায়গায় ৪টি গাছ লাগিয়ে বছরে সর্বোচ্চ তিনটি ফলনের মাধ্যমে ১৬ কেজি আঙ্গুর উৎপাদন করা সম্ভব। লাউ, সীম, কুমড়া এখন বসত ভিটার আঙ্গিনা থেকে বাণিজ্যিকভাবে মাঠ পর্যায়ে চাষ হচ্ছে, অতএব বসত ভিটার ঐ মাচাটি এখন চাইলে আমরা আঙ্গুর মাচায় রূপান্তরিত করতে পারি। সে ক্ষেত্রে প্রয়োজন হচ্ছে কৃষক পর্যায়ে প্রশিক্ষণ, প্রদর্শনী খামার স্থাপন, চারা উৎপাদন, বিতরণ এবং জোর প্রচারণা।
