We, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy are an International Congregation founded by Rev. Father Medaille S.J in 1650, in France at Le Puy in response to the challenges of the times. The journey of the sisters to India began in the year 1849 arriving in the diocese of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Bishop Neyret, for the first time, understood well, the position of women in Vizagapatam. They had no education. Hence Neyret, the Bishop of Vizagapatam decided to do something for these women. He managed to get the help and services of the Sisters of St. Joseph from France to work among women as it was in great need. On 9th December 1851 the ship called "Canada" bringing the second batch of sisters to the Mission of Vizagapatam. They were warmly welcomed by Father Tissot, who later became Bishop of Vizagapatam.
Fort Catholic Girls’ School started with the primary school in 1852. The school was recognized by the Govt. in 1856. The school grew rapidly, the result of the examinations were always very good. The School had recognition only upto 6th class. After that the students were prepared for the Andhra Matriculation Examination. In 1988 Fort Catholic Girls’ School got the recognition for classes 8th to 10th. They always passed with good results. In April 1992 the management decided to follow the ICSE Board. On 23rd October 1996 Fort Catholic Girls’ High School was officially affiliated to the ICSE Board at New Delhi. High standard, high moral and Christian values are the discipline of the school. The Annual School day celebration & Sports meet is an occasion where the parents of the children and all well wishers look forward to and are never disappointed with the talented performances of the children. Our children actively participate in various competitive interschool activities beside the ones held regularly within the school. They have also brought laurels from competitions like painting, writing, dancing, elocution, essay writing and singing too held for various occasions at different levels and made the school proud.
