كان شيخي في الفانية يقول: "إنّما نحزن على ما نفقد، فأمِتْ حُزنكَ بالزّهدِ في كلّ شيءٍ". وكنتُ أرى أنّ عليّ أنْ أتعلّم آداب المُريدين كما صنّفها الشّيخان السّهروردي وابن عربي. فإنّني بدون هذه الآداب لن يُشرِقَ قلبي بالحِكمة. وسألتُه مرّة: "ما خيرُ العِلم؟". فقال: "ما كانت الخشيةُ معه". فسألتُه: "كيفَ تُقطَع الطّريق؟". فقال: "بالله". فقلتُ: "كيف؟". فقال: "لكَ في الله غِنًى عن كلّ شيءٍ وليسَ يُغنيكَ عنه شيء".

ووصلتُ إلى ثلاث شجراتٍ يشمخْن غير بعيداتٍ. فأتيتُ الأولى منهنّ، فإذا تحتها ثلاثة شيوخ، وكلّ واحدٍ منهم قد أخذ ثلثًا من جذع الشّجرة واستند إليه، ومن أمامه يمتدّ خَلْقٌ حتى ينقطع البصر عن أنْ يُدرك آخرهم، يستمع كلّ خَلْقٍ من هؤلاء إلى شيخه، فأتيتُ الأوّل، فإذا هو يَعبُر الأحلام، فعرفتُ أنّه ابن سيرين، فسألته أنْ يُفسّر الحلم الّذي أنا فيه منذ أنْ استيقظتُ من القبر إلى هذه اللّحظة، فكأنّني سمعتُه يقول: "يا بُنَيّ أنتَ في الحقيقة، وإنّما الحلم هو ذلك الّذي كنتَ تعيشه في الفانية، فإنْ شئتَ فسّرتُ لك حُلم الحياة الأولى، أمّا الموت فقد أدخلكَ إلى الحقيقة وأوصدَ بينَك وبين الحُلم بابًا لا يُمكن أنْ ينفتح لك مرّة ثانية. ألم تسمع القائل: النّاسُ نِيامٌ فإذا ماتوا انتبهوا".
